Nursery & Baby Room Decorating Ideas

  • Create a visually stimulating room for your baby, using decorating techniques that you can implement in just a couple of days. Some of the techniques will require special attention to detail and perhaps a helper or two. Many of the ideas can be put in place by those who lack a more creative side. Choose the ideas that best suit your skill level and taste when decorating your nursery room.

  • Modern

Stencil a damask pattern on an accent wall. In order to create a subtle look, use a stencil color that is only a shade or two lighter than the rest of the walls. For a bolder look, use brown in your design against a teal background. A simpler design to implement is a straightforward striped pattern. Make a flock of origami cranes to attach to another wall. Use glue dots on the bottoms of the cranes when adhering them to the walls. Allow the cranes to "fly" around and over a collage of black and white baby photos. The photos can be replaced with current pictures to highlight various milestones in your baby's life. By adding a crib that can be converted into a single- or full-size headboard and footboard in your nursery, the room can grow with your child.

  • Nautical

  • Develop a haven for your baby boy when you decorate the nursery with nautical gear and accents. Paint the room in a soothing blue 3/4 of the way up the walls. Paint 6-inch wide black and white horizontal stripes the rest of the way up the walls. Between the blue paint and the stripes, screw in 6-inch wide stainless steel cleats, spacing them 2 feet apart around the room. Drape nautical rope over the cleats. Hang a long white shelf along one wall on which to set colorful sail boats. Set lighthouses that also function as night lights on your baby's dresser to complete the nursery.

  • Vintage

  • Hang vintage
quilts on the nursery room walls.

Bring out those attic and flea market treasures to fashion a vintage retreat for your baby girl. Hang your grandmother's handmade quilt on the wall or frame old needlework samplers above the crib. Paint pink and white stripes on the walls and then accent with fresh flowers--out of baby's reach--and rose-patterned lamp shades. Create a shadowbox that showcases baby booties and christening gowns worn by generations past. Finish your vintage look by hanging a quaint oval mirror that is flanked with pictures of your baby, printed in sepia and enclosed in antique frames
